Provisional data show that the index of industrial production increased by 7.8 per cent over the corresponding month of 2009.
Index of Industrial Production: June 2010
Industrial production rose by 7.8 per cent from 97.2 points in June 2009. This was attributed to an increase in the production of intermediate and capital goods which rose by 25.0 and 12.0 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the production of energy and consumer goods fell by 4.7 and 5.5 per cent respectively. The drop in consumer goods was reflected in a 38.7 and 1.1 per cent decline in the production of durable and non-durable goods respectively.
At the NACE division level, industrial production rose, mainly on account of a 46.1 per cent increase in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (NACE division 21). Furthermore, manufacture of food products (NACE division 10), manufacture of textiles (NACE division 13), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (NACE division 22) and manufacture of computer and electronic and optical products (NACE division 26) experienced gains of 3.9, 22.9, 26.6 and 22.7 per cent respectively over the corresponding period last year. This increase was mitigated by a decline in the manufacture of wearing apparel (NACE division 14), repair and installation of machinery and equipment (NACE division 33) and the production of electricity (NACE division 35) by 29.1,16.1 and 4.8 per cent respectively over 2009.
