Around 500 children from all the primary schools in Gozo attended a special event to commemorate the day when Gozo was liberated from the French occupation. This year was the 212th Anniversay of the French capitulation to the Gozitans led by Arch. Saver Cassar.
The event was organised by the Regional and National Celebrations Committee within the Ministry for Gozo, together with the Gozo College and included the launch of a new hymn to Archpriest Saver Cassar. The words and music of this hymn, by Anton F. Attard and Mariella Spiteri, were presented to the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono.
The chorus of the Gozo College under the direction of Mariella Spiteri, sang the hymn to Gozo, the anthem of the Gozo College and the National Anthem.
The ceremony ended with the placing of wreaths at the monument of the Archpriest Saver Cassar, by the Minister for Gozo and the Principal of the Gozo College, Chev. Frank Gatt. A student from each school in Gozo laid one flower at the memorial on behalf of their respective schools.
