Independent assessment of Dwejra disaster commissioned

Independent assessment commissioned of Dwejra disasterThe Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), has announced that it has commissioned an independent environmental specialist, who has started carrying out an independent assessment to evaluate whether the filming activities had an impact on the habitats and species for which this site has been designated as a Natura 2000 site.

MEPA said now that the majority of the sand has been removed from on site and the clean up operation downscaled to the manual brushing off of sand from on the rock surface, Dr Louis F. Cassar and his appointed team of experts have started to assess the situation and the possible resulting implications, if any, on the area earmarked for filming activities.

The cumbersome three week manual clean up operation at Dwejra was constantly being monitored by MEPA to ensure that the removal of the sand from the site was carried out without causing any damage to the rock surface, MEPA concluded.
