Dun Mikiel Azzopardi was one of the pioneers in the field of disability and strived to ensure that all people with a disability are treated with respect and dignity. In order to commemorate the 100th birthday of Dun Mikiel Azzopardi who founded Dar Tal- Providenza, a National Child Art Exhibition was organised by Id-Dar Tal-Providenza in collaboration with the Curriculum Management and elearning Department within the Ministry of Education, Employment and the Family.
The Commissioner for Children, Mrs. Helen D’Amato, inaugurated this event which was attended by a number of students who came from six different schools. The theme for this Art exhibition was that Monsignor Mikiel Azzopardi was a friend to all. The 260 children who participated expressed, through their paintings, the quality of life with everyone being different but equal. The Commissioner for Children presented each participant with a certificate.
The Commissioner for Children expressed how important each and every child is, she went on to explain to them that a lot of progress has been made in this area especially in the field of Education and training. This has proved to be true with the Special Schools reform as well as the vast variety of courses offered at MCAST. Mrs. D’Amato also stressed the importance of the continuous progress which needs to be made especially in the area of employment in order to ensure that equal opportunities are available and also to ensure inclusion at the place of work.
The exhibition will be open to the public until after the new year.
