Public Health Dept warns against Miracle Mineral Solution

The Public Health Regulation Department has said that is has been informed that a product called Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) is available for sale in Europe and over the internet. The product is also often referred to as Miracle Mineral Supplement. This product is being sold in Europe and over the internet as an oral mineral supplement. There is also a product called MMS2 which comes in the form of capsules. A wide range of scientifically-unsubstantiated claims are made for the ‘therapeutic’ effect of the products contained in the supplement.

The Public Health Regulation Department said that a number of adverse effects following ingestion of the product have been reported. Miracle Mineral Solution contains 28% sodium chlorite solution which is equivalent to industrial-strength bleach. When taken as directed it could cause severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, potentially leading to dehydration and reduced blood pressure. If the solution is diluted less than instructed, it could cause damage to the intestines and to the blood cells and can potentially result in kidney failure. Although there has also been one media report of a death associated with use of the product, this could not be officially confirmed.

The Department strongly advises the public not to procure such a product. Persons who have already procured such a product should throw it away immediately and if they have consumed such a product and feel unwell they should consult their doctor.

The Department once again reminds the public that the quality, safety and efficacy of products bought over the internet cannot be always be guaranteed and advises the public not to engage in such an activity where medicinal products are concerned.
