The Health Division has said today that because of what it says is “severe outbreak of influenza,” the public should take the normal precautions for the prevention of the spread of flu, these include frequent hand washing drinking water and disposing of tissues correctly and staying home if sick. The statement also advised that people avoid crowded areas where possible
The Health Division said that vulnerable persons, mainly frail, elderly or chronically ill individuals, may be affected more than others. If anyone is ill then they should first contact their family doctor or clinic, where a referral to hospital would be made if necessary.
Yesterday, the Health Division issued a statement saying that more than 200 “very sick people” were admitted to Mater Dei hospital as in-patients between New Year’s Eve and up to 4pm yesterday.
