Last Wednesday, the 2nd of March 2011, representatives of “The Malta Charities Association” of London have visited The Arka Respite Centre in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, to make a donation towards Arka Foundation. In fact, Mr & Mrs Michael Rapinet together with Gozitan sculptor Joe Xuereb, were welcomed at the center by Mr Joe Cremona, manager of the Respite Center, and Mgr. Emanuel Curmi, Founder of Arka, who updated the visitors with their latest plans and about their future projects.
At the end of their visit, Mrs Tina Rapinet presented Fr. Curmi with a handsome donation of €10,000. Fr Curmi thanked the London based ‘Malta Charities’ for their fourth fabulous help towards ‘Arka Respite Centre’ and considered their gesture as very providential and very useful for the running of the centre.
The Malta Charities Association of London organises fund raising activities, to help the Malta and Gozo based philanthropic societies. One of their major activities, is the Gala Dinner they hold before Christmas time at ‘The Landmark’ hotel in London during which local art works are auctioned at the end of the dinner. Joe Xuereb, stone sculptor residing in Ghajnsielem has been donating to the Malta Charities for the last 10 years, one of his limestone sculptures for their fund raising activity. For year 2010, Xuereb’s contribution has raised a price of €2,000 so far.
In addition to the Arka Foundation, other Gozitan societies like Oasi Foundation and Eden Foundation have also benefited from similar help.
