100th anniversary commemoration of Prof Guze Aquilina

The 100th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Guze Aquilina will be commemorated on Thursday, the 7th of April by the Circolo Gozitano at its premises at 6 Sir Adrian Dingli Street, in Victoria.

Prof Joseph Aquilina, who was born in Munxar, Gozo, on the 7th of April 1911 and died at the age of 86 on 8th August 1987, made a monumental and even pioneering contribution to the study and promotion of the Maltese language. This contribution took various forms. He was the first scholar to hold the Chair of Maltese and Oriental Languages at the University. He also published numerous publications and scholarly works in the linguistic field.

The commemorative activity will take the form of a music-literary evening starting at 7.3 pm. The activity is being coordinated by Chev J. M. Attard

This commemorative activity forms part of the ongoing programme of activities being organised by the Committee of the Circolo Gozitano.

I have the honour of owning a house on his street. May his ongoing contribution to pioneering the Maltese language long continue. RIP
