Bank of Valletta is financing the development of twelve apartments that can accommodate families of children who receive care at the Royal Marsden Hospital, land in Sutton in the United Kingdom. These apartments, within walking distance of the hospital will be developed by the Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group.
The Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group offers a holistic approach of care for families who have children suffering from cancer. Set up in 2002 by Dr Victor Calvagna and Rennie Zerafa, Puttinu Cares is a haven of solace for families whose children have been afflicted with cancer.
This new collaboration was announced during a press conference held at Bank of Valletta’s Head Office in Santa Venera and addressed by Michael Galea, Chief Officer Operations at Bank of Valletta and Dr Victor Calvagna, founder and consultant at Puttinu Cares.
"Bank of Valletta is proud to partner up with Puttinu Cares in the Sutton Project," said Mr Galea. "Through a special tailor made facility, the Bank will be providing financial assistance in this project."
"Moreover, Bank of Valletta and Puttinu Cares are setting up a Trust to guarantee the sustainability of Puttinu Cares", continued Mr Galea. "Through this Trust, Puttinu Cares will benefit from the Bank’s expertise in financial management and also ensure transparency in the governance of the Group."
"These new apartments will surely assist the families whose children need care at the Royal Marsden Hospital" said Dr Calvagna. "This project will remove logistical and financial hurdles for families who are already burdened with the challenges of cancer and can focus on giving their full support to their loved ones."
