Youth for the Environment (Y4TE) said that it supports the initiative of the Car Free Day [1], celebrated world wide on the 22nd of September. It will take place in Malta ad Gozo, this Sunday, the 18th of September. Six local councils and three voluntary organizations will organise sports, cultural and artistic activities in the streets of the respective localities.
Y4TE said it “believes that this day will give us the chance to think to opt for a different type of transport – including using public transport, walking or cycling. A reduction in car traffic can bring benefits in terms of air quality.”
“Efforts to reduce congestion can have a positive effect on air quality. This event aims to instill awareness by making people reducing their carbon footprint. Y4TE encourages everyone to take part in this initiative,” it concluded.

There is one problem with that in Gozo and Malta tho. My car recently broke down and I had no other choice but to use public transport however this was not reliable at all. It took me two and a half hours a day just to get to work late. I do want to be friendly to the environment but we do need to get the basics right first. At this current moment it is actually worth spending five times as much on fuel than using public transport which is bad for the environment however i rather that than risk my job.
