Advice on events involving the production and sale of food

Advice on events involving the production and sale of foodThe Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health of the Ministry for Health, Elderly and Community Care has said that it “has noticed that several events involving the production and sale of food are being organised both by public and private entities.” It has also “noticed that during such activities food hygiene is not being given the importance due by the food business operators. As a result the safety of food offered to the public may at times be jeopardised.”

For this purpose, the Directorate said that it wishes to bring to the attention to all organisers of such events, to ensure compliance with food safety requirements by all food businesses allowed to operate during such events. Such regulations can be found on this link [1] and a short explanation of such regulations can be found on the document ‘Food Safety Legislation Explained’ which can be downloaded here [2].

The Health Inspectorate will continue to monitor such events and action will be taken accordingly.

For further assistance, operators are requested to contact the Environmental Health Directorate at 37/39, Rue D’Argens, Msida on Tel: 21324093 between 08:00am and 3:00pm or by email on mhi@gov.mt [3].
