The challenges and opportunities associated with the development of an island were discussed at a conference held in the Bishop’s Curia in Victoria. The Gozo session took place following on from two sessions held earlier in Malta as part of the activities associated with the National conference on the theme of Sustainable Development in Malta and Gozo.
The conference ‘Enough for All – Environmental Resources and Sustainable Development in Malta and Gozo,’ was organised by the Interdiocesan for the Environment in collaboration with the Malta Water Association (MWA), Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) and the Directorate for eco-Gozo and Regional Development within the Ministry for Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, attended the conference and explained how the matters discussed relate directly to what is the Government’s policy on Gozo in the context of eco-Gozo vision. The Minister praised the initiative and said that these ongoing discussions are witness to all those involved for the sustainable development of the country. “The commitment of the Ministry for Gozo in this regard is reflected in the implementation of the action plan 2010-2012 associated with the eco-Gozo vision,” The Minister explained that the Ministry for Gozo “has either completed work, or work is underway on more than half of the 80 measures listed in the action plan, including measures related to various socio-economic sectors, such as the environment, economy and the social and cultural identity.”
The conference was inaugurated by H.E. Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo. An address was also given by Anton Refalo, spokesman of the Labour Party for Gozo and Mr Michael Bajada, representative of Alternattiva Demokratika for Gozo.
