Heritage Malta is organising an introduction to beekeeping and the traditional medicinal uses of honey. The session is being held for children aged 10-14 years of age.
The practice of apiculture requires a sound knowledge of the honey bees’ behaviour. This session will consist of a presentation by a local beekeeper showing the various stages in the production of honey, equipment used, the role and life of bees and the use of honey, particularly in treating various ailments.
Participants will be given a taste of a traditional drink made with locally produced honey. At the end of the session the participants will be given a certificate of attendance
The event is being held at the Folklore Museum, The Citadel, Gozo, between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday, the 4th of January 2012. The cost is €5 per entrant.
For the full programme and booking please e-mail: education@heritagemalta.org [1] by the 31st of December 2011.

Honey is a very interesting substance. My late father was diabetic and had a nasty ulcer on the back of his heal for months which refused to get better. The condition was finally cured using honey impregnated dressings. The Greeks used it thousands of years ago and it was also used during the second world war for its antibacterial properties in treating wounds. Whenever I cut myself especially if I’m in the garden I immediately wash the cut out with 9% hydrogen peroxide solution available at any chemist. In all honeys, there is – to different levels – hydrogen peroxide produced from an enzyme that bees add to the nectar so I guess I have been using a similar treatment for years without knowing it. Honey has even been used to treat antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria such as staphylococcus aureas. Amazing substance.

Respected Mike,
Please check your diet. You take some ingredients e.g. coffee, tea, wine, vinegar (or just like) with empty stomach. Please take care with your diet. Honey is not the cause of your heartburn and acidity. Please take vegetables, fruits and liquid diet with exercise. Thanks.
