Over 100 health care professionals will be offering various free medical services
The Ministry for Health the Elderly and Community Care will be organising the second open day during which the general public can avail of various professional services free of charge.
The aim of the open day is that of generating further awareness on health related matters. Over 100 health care professionals will be offering their expertise to give information about how to mantain a healthy lifestyle. Following the success of the first event held last year, during which over 2,000 persons visited the Ministry, the services offered was increased to better accomodate the needs and queries of the general public.
Those visiting will be offered blood pressure and glucose monitoring as well as tips on breast monitoring. Other services will include calculation of body mass index, scoliosis, glaucoma screening, stress tests (ECG), and examinations for skin related conditions. Practical advice will also be provided on obesity and healthy eating, dental hygiene, physiotherapy, podiatry, sexually transmitted diseases, careers in the health sectors, one to one mental health consultation, (psychological services by appointment), and information about food labelling, nutrition, and the elderly and community care services.
The day will also offer various activities which are intended to better explain what happens in emergency procedures, such as a fire rescue simulation and a rope rescue demonstration. Mr. Alex Manche` will deliver a lecture on health risks associated with obesity while Mr. Reggie Aquilina will present a session related to preventing falls in elderly persons. Dr. Anton Grech will give practical tips on how to deal with depression.
Elderly persons attending the various day centres will lead an aerobics session on the main stage while the general public is invited to participate in a mass Zumba session with Maria and Pedro (by registration). Attractions on main stage will also include actors from the Deceduti television comedy show.

During the day the public will also be encouraged to donate blood at the Mobile Blood Donation Unit which will be parked in Castille Place.
Customer Care officials will be present on site to inform those attending to answer questions about the various health services and give information regarding the various events and services offered.
