The Gozo Business Chamber (GBC) has said this morning in a statement that it “would like to express it’s regret and utter dismay that the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) is resorting to such drastic industrial and ill-timed action in Gozo Channel Company Limited in view of unresolved issues relating to the collective agreement”
“Without going into the merits of the current issues of the collective agreement between the union and the government.” the GBC continued that it, “wants to point out that the action being taken will be of great damage the economy of Gozo at such a delicate time. The carnival period is one of the highlight events in winter for the Gozitan businesses and a disruption in the service will leave huge financial consequences in the Gozitan economy, especially in the current difficult times that Malta and Gozo are facing.”
The Chamber concluded by saying that it “strongly urges that both government and the union sit down to resolve this issue without further delay and to take all necessary steps to ensure that the service between the two islands continues to operate without problems.”
