Information relating to chages in the Schedule V yellow cardLegislative changes to Article 23 of the Social Security Act and Part II of the Fifth Schedule came into force on the 27th March 2012. This resulted in an increase in the number of chronic conditions that entitle patients to free medicines from 38 to 79.

The Medicines Entitlement Unit (MEU) wishes to remind patients, about important procedures governing the issuing of the Schedule V (yellow) card:

– Patient’s Identification Card should always be presented.

– Only the new application form reflecting the new legislation will be accepted for processing by the Medicines Entitlement Unit (MEU). Old applications including the new conditions in handwriting will not be considered.

– If the patient has the old Schedule V (yellow) card, this should always be brought together with the new application.

– Patients can choose to leave the application together with the necessary documentation at the Medicines Entitlement Unit (MEU). The documents will be processed and the new Schedule V (yellow) card will be sent by post.

– There has been an extension of the opening hours at the Medicines Entitlement Unit within St. Luke’s Hospital as follows: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30 to 14.30.

– Diabetic patients should visit a medical practitioner. The medical practitioner will guide them accordingly.
