Justyne Caruana, the Labour Party’s spokesperson for the family, said today, “that many Gozitan families were in crisis because the only child care centre in Gozo, run by the Church, was going to be shut down.”
“The centre had been running for years without being subject to standards and regulations since it was not registered. The families who left their children there were not entitled to the tax refunds issued by the Finance Ministry, precisely because it was not a registered institution,” Dr Caruana said.
“Although the Government had promised to provide these facilities for years, there was still no appropiate child care centre in Gozo,” Dr Caruana said.
“Gozo is currently in crisis because hundreds of working parents have nobody to leave their children with, as the present centre it shutting down. The government needs to build a childcare centre that adheres to the established standards, so that our families can have what they are entitled to according to the law,” Dr Caruana concluded.
