Stock of licensed motor vehicles up by 2.4% on last yearAt the end of March, the stock of licensed motor vehicles stood at 313,027, up by 2.4 per cent when compared to last year.

At the end of March, the stock of licensed motor vehicles stood at 313,027. Of these, 79.2 per cent were passenger cars, 14.6 per cent were commercial vehicles, 5.1 per cent were motorcycles, while buses and minibuses accounted for less than one per cent.

New licences issued during the period under review amounted to 4,044. The majority of new licences (3,384 or 83.7 per cent of the total) were issued to passenger cars, followed by goods carrying vehicles with 367.

Newly-licensed ‘new’ motor vehicles amounted to 1,717, or 42.5 per cent of the total, and newly licensed ‘used’ motor vehicles totalled 2,327.

In the first quarter this year, 42 vehicles were exported. Garaged vehicles (see definition in methodological notes) amounted to 2,158, while scrapped vehicles totalled 1,884.

As at the end of the first quarter, 193,213 vehicles or 61.7 per cent of the total, had petrol engines. Vehicles with diesel engines totalled 119,391, or 38.1 per cent of the total.
