University students to be able to sit exams at Gozo Campus

For the first time Gozitan University students will be able to choose to do their exams on Gozo itself, by virtue of a pilot project managed by the University of Malta in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo.

This was announced today by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, together with Professor Joe Friggieri, Pro-Rector of the University Gozo Campus. Through this initiative a number of Gozitan students attending University courses in Malta will now not have to travel to Malta to sit their exams, but will be able to choose in June to do the exams at the Gozo Campus.

The Minister said that this “is another initiative that seeks to offer additional educational services in Gozo and simultaneously serve the particular needs of Gozitan students. The Ministry is committed to working to encourage more Gozitan students to continue their studies after completing the secondary and post-secondary courses in Gozo.” The Minister also expressed her satisfaction over the fact that there are now 1000 students pursuing courses at the University of Malta, double the number of ten years ago.

Professor Friggieri was congratulated on his appointment by the Minister, by saying that “it augurs well for further positive developments in this field.” The Minister also praised the commitment of Professor Lino Briguglio who was instrumental in establishing the University Gozo Centre and his work over the last twenty years to continue to strenthen to the services offered.

For this year there will be 71 sessions of exams associated with seven different courses. This is in addition to other tests related to the courses offered at the University Gozo Campus during the academic year.
