Summer Garden Party held in Gozo raises €9,000 for charity

A Summer Garden Party was hosted recently by Pauline Sandars at her farmhouse in Xewkija, as a tribute to her late husband and to provide funds for the Philip Sandars Memorial Fund.

Supported by her family and in collaboration with Rotary Club Gozo, the party drew many guests from across Malta and Gozo. So far, including other donations, the Fund has raised an astounding €11,500 in total, intended towards providing critical cardiac-related equipment for the Gozo General Hospital.

Everybody enjoyed an excellent evening, catered by Connections Catering and with great music from the versatile Johnny Cash Band. Hard work by members of the Sandars family in UK and by Rotarians in Gozo effectively established a Grand Prize Draw.

The organisers said they are grateful for the generosity of the many individuals and businesses in Gozo and Malta, which enabled some wonderful prizes, with a face value of €4,000, to be offered.

A eulogy to his father was read by Daniel Sandars. Malta’s senior cardiologist Dr Albert Fenech also spoke, thanking those attending and noting the importance of the effort to provide timely support, supplementing, but not replacing, normal funding arrangements.

The President of the Rotary Club, Marie Grech, offered her thanks to those working behind the scenes to make the event happen. She presented two bouquets to Mrs Sandars and her daughter Antonia in thanks for the party.
