Malta Climbing Club attend the San Vito Climbing Festival

A group of climbers from the Malta Climbing Club (MCC) recently attended the San Vito Climbing (Extreme Outdoor Games) festival in Sicily as special guests of the organisers.

Following contacts made by club members who have regularly attended the festival over the past years, the organisers this year invited an official delegation from the club to attend. Malta was given special prominence when a slot in the official programme was dedicated to the MCC to make a presentation about climbing in the Maltese Islands.

Accompanying the MCC group was Hon. Member Stevie Haston, a climber of international repute who has Gozitan roots.

Mr. Haston gave the presentation personally, describing the different locations where climbing can be practiced in Malta as well as his recent ascent of a world class climb he called “King of Kings” in Gozo which has been featured prominently in the international climbing media.

During this presentation the Malta Tourism Authority also launched its newly produced climbing promotional videos [1] which are to be used in its future climbing-related promotional campaigns.

During the groups’ stay in San Vito they enjoyed climbing at numerous venues and also met up with world number one climber Adam Ondra who was special guest. The MCC’s participation at this festival was supported by the Malta Tourism Authority who set up a stand which presented Malta as an active holiday and outdoor activity destination to the many participants who attended the festival from all over Europe.

The MCC presence at the festival helped raise awareness of climbing in Malta with people who are passionate about extreme outdoor sports.
