Storm hits Gozo causing road closures through flooding

Update: Malta Airport Met Office has issued a warning on bad weather that is expected across the islands this afternoon.

“A weather system is developing to the south west of Malta and is moving very slowly towards Malta.”

As a result Malta is expected to be hit by thundery showers this afternoon.

The Civil Protection Department also issued a warning urging motorists to avoid areas that are liable to flooding and to drive with caution during the height of the storm.

Update: Gozo was particularly badly hit by the storm this afternoon, which started at around 1pm.

Police have advised motorists to avoid Triq il-Fontana, Triq ir-Rabat and the roads around Xlendi as well as Triq il-Wied in Marsalforn, due to the amount of surface water.

In Victoria, up until 4pm this afternoon, approximately 79mm of rainfall was recorded.

What`s more interesting and amusing but also sad, are the comments that follow.
Written in mixed Maltese and English or in broken English

What`s the point of all the hard work and effort to teach the Maltese language overseas, when it is being butchered in its mother country. I don`t think this was Fat. Karm Psaila`s wish.
