Gozitan Skola Sports students walk to Ramla Bay for Istrina

Skola Sport students and instructors in Gozo recently took part in a walk as a gesture of solidarity with the activities being organised in aid of the Istrina 2012.

Those who took part are from the group of 285 primary and secondary achool students who attend Skola Sport activities at the Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria every Saturday.

The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono joined the students for the walk, which started off near Ta’ Hamet church in Xaghra and concluded at Ramla Bay. The students were then able to join in some games which were organised by the Skola Sport coordinators.

Those who participated in the walk made a donation in aid of Istrina, which will then be presented by some of the young people to the President of Malta, Dr George Abela at an activity to be held later this month.

The Minister congratulated everyone who had taken part in the event, saying that although they were young, the children had wanted to participate to help those in need. The Minister also said that the practice of sport and physical exercise is so essential to the life of every individual in living a healthier lifestyle.

Among the disciplines practiced through the Skola Sport Programme at the Sports Complex are hip-hop, breakdance, table and lawn tennis, biking, climbing, gymnastics, martial arts and football skills. Free transportation is also provided for the students from all locations across the island to the Gozo Sports Complex and back as part of the progamme.
