The Malta Developers Association said today that, “the positive effect of cheaper tariffs on the scale indicated by the Labour Party on the Maltese economy would undoubtedly be huge and would stimulate the business sector to contribute further for the good of Maltese society and its further progress.”
The political discussions on energy tariffs taking place at the moment is a positive development, as the lowering of the tariffs could be the way forward to a more sustainable economy, the MDA said.
The MDA said that it appreciated the Labour Party’s efforts with this proposal for a “doable project,” although it was concerned on how it could be attained in the two-year time scale mentioned.
Although the country is at the start of an election campaign, the proposal by Labour has led to a mature discussion on the country’s energy sector, to the extent that it appears that both parties agree on the need for something to actioned towards the current electricity tariffs and on the importance of involving the private sector in the energy generation field, the MDA concluded.
