The Leader of the Partit Laburista (PL), Joseph Muscat, said today that a new Government “will be listening to what the citizens have to say on the environment sector, thus NGOs will be given due importance. A new Government will set up a fund from which these organisations may benefit financially in order to be in a better position to work more effectively.”
The Labour Leader was presenting the PL proposals vis-a-vis the environment and development, to environment organisations, architects and developers.
During these organised seminars, the Labour Pary said that “there were positive reactions to the PL proposals.” PL went on to say that “Astrid Vella, from Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar, stated that she is pleased with the fact that a new Government will divide the planning and environment sector. She emphasized the need for change in planning structures and local planning.”
“Hydrologist Marco Cremona, described the proposal as proof that resources will be given more importance. A similar comment came also from the organisation Friends of the Earth,” PL said.
The Labour Party said that Vince Cassar, the President of the Chamber of Architects, said “that these are positive proposals and that he agreed with most of them. Among the proposals discussed, he mentioned that a number of them had been pointed out already by the architects and there were other interesting innovative ideas as well.”
The Vice-President of the Malta Developers Association, Sandro Chetcuti “praised the fact that the PL addressed the issue of MEPA tariffs, which he stated should be reduced in a drastic manner,” PL said.
During the meeting the PL Leader Joseph Muscat said “that a new Government will give voice to the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), by giving them the opportunity to suggest individuals to represent them on the Environment and Resources Authority and the Planning and Sustainable Development Authority.”
