Santa Lucija’s Fundazzjoni Folkloristika Ta’ Klula was recently awarded the European Destination of Excellence award by Parliamentary Secretary Dr Mario Demarco.
Twenty-one local councils participated in the programme and were judged on seasonality, accessibility, quality, sustainability, diversity, authenticity and innovation.
Lija, Qormi and Zejtun shared second place and Nadur took third place.
The EU programme encourages local councils to attract visitors to less popular areas and aims to improve tourism in the southern and Mediterranean regions of Europe.
