Three new appointments announced for heads at the OPM

This afternoon three new appointments were announced in the Office of the Prime Minister..

The post of Cabinet Secretary and Principal Permanent Secretary has been given to Mario Cutajar, he will also be responsible as Head of Civil Service and they are on a designate basis.

Mario Cutajar has been in public service since 1976 in a number of Ministries and departments. He has worked in the public service and was also a trade union officer for several years.

In this period, Godwin Grima remain as the Principal Permanent Secretary.

The new Administration is introducing a new structure for the secretariat of the Prime Minister and the rest of the Cabinet. The Prime Minister’s Secretariat will be headed by the Chief of Staff.

The Chief of Staff of the Office of the Prime Minister will be Mr. Keith Schembri.

Keith Schembri is 37 years old and the OPM said that he brings a new dimension to the system of Government because of his background in the business field. “His achievements and leadership and creativity along with the fact that fully understands the needs of investors in our country will help the Government understands the needs of people to create workplaces in our country.”

Mr Schembri was also the person in charge of the Labour Party Election Campaign. To ensure transparency Mr Schembri will be is leaving his commercial posts.

The Government’s Head of Communications will be Kurt Farrugia.

Mr Farrugia is 31 years of age and started his career in journalism. For the past few years he was the Director of Communications of the Labour Party.
