After a series of inspections conducted by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), it said that it has been noted that a number of food imitating products can be found on the Maltese Market.
Attention must be given to products similar to the ones on the pictures accompanying this article which have been withdrawn from the market. These products are food imitating because of their shape and smell. This can be hazardous to consumers, especially unaware consumers such as small children, which might confuse these kinds of products for foodstuff.
In accordance to Maltese subsidiary legislation 427.07, the marketing of such products is illegal. The Technical Regulations Division of the Authority said that it is therefore recommending consumers to refrain from using these products and to immediately remove them from their homes, so as not to expose children and other vulnerable consumers to risks of choking and/or chemical pneumonia.
