Xaghra Day 2013 full programme of events announcedThe Xaghra Local Council is once again organising the annual ‘Xaghra Day’ to celebrate the anniversary of the Xaghra Parish Foundation.

There will be a programme of activities which is aimed at the enjoyment of all the family, including a commemorative ceremony, during which the honour of ‘Gieh ix-Xaghra’ will be bestowed.

The programme of events which is taking place between the 24th and 28th of April is as follows:

Wednesday 24th April:

9.00am: Celebration of Holy Mass for the elderly at the Xaghra Youth Centre. A social activity follows ending with lunch at noon.

Friday 26th April: LIBRARY DAY.

The Xaghra Public Library ‘Patri Gigi Camilleri SJ’ will be open to the general public from 9am till 2.30pm.

In the morning, there will be organised visits to the library by the children attending the Xaghra Primary School and the students attending at MCAST.

During this activity, popular TV actor and author Ivan Debattista will be present to meet children and the general public.

8.00pm: In the chapel of Saint Anthony the Abbot, a musical concert ‘A Voice in a Chapel’ will take place. The concert will have the participation of Soprano Patrizia Morandini (Italy) accompanied on the piano by Stephen Attard (Gozo).

Saturday 27th April: XAGHRA DAY.

Between 10am and 3pm: There will be football tournaments for Xaghra children and students organised by the Xaghra United Football Club.

7.30pm: Festive band marches by the Victory Band of Xaghra starting from Victory Square to the Band’s club in Bambina Street.

8.00pm: At the ‘Dun Alwig Camilleri’ Hall in the Victory Band Club, a varied programme will take place during which the honour ‘Gieh ix-Xaghra 2013’ will be bestowed.

The Victory Band will take part, playing popular pop music.

Sunday 28th April: Commemoration of the 325th Anniversary of Xaghra Parish foundation.

The Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot commemorates the 25th Anniversary of its Consecration.

From 8.30am till 1.00pm: The 38th edition of the Gozo Half Marathon organised by the Gozo Amateur Athletic Association in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council.

At the end of the Marathon, Xaghra Mayor Joe Cordina and Deputy Mayor Aaron Agius present the medals and trophies to the winners and participants of this annual sports event.

From 2pm to 4pm: Guided tours around the various historical places of interest in Xaghra organised by the Xaghra Local Council in collaboration with Heritage Malta.

Those interested in participating should register at the Council’s offices by not later than Friday, the 26th of April.
