The Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo recently met with the Gozo Horse Racing Association which administers ta’ Xhajma complex at Xewkija.
During the meeting various pending and other important matters regarding the sports development were discussed. The Gozo Horse Racing Association President David Apap, thanked the Minister on behalf of the Association for the meeting and for the commitment shown during the meeting. “It’s a known fact that the complex has enormous potential and action should be taken to improve and increase the facilities,” he said.
The Association said that an agreement was reached between both parties on works to be carried out and on the help, including technical help, to be provided by the Ministry so that concrete plans can be developed for the near future.
The agenda also included the installation of a tele-spectators tent, for which financing was acquired from the Good Causes Fund in the last few months.
The Association said that the Minister for Gozo “thanked and congratulated the Association for the important work it carried out. He also confirmed his commitment to continue to support the Committee, both financially, as well as administratively, in order to enhance the facilities at ta’ Xhajma Racecourse.”
“The Minister insisted that great attention is to be given to Gozitan horseracing enthusiasts, while initiatives will be undertaken to attract both Maltese and foreign enthusiasts to the Gozo racecourse. The latter could enhance the Gozitan sports tourism market,” the Association concluded.
