Update: Gozo was without power again on Thursday evening, as were some parts of Mellieha in Malta. Enemalta said that the outage was due to a cable faut.
The power went off at around 10.00am, returning shortly afterwards for a few minutes and then went off again.
Power started to be restored to Gozo at around 11.45pm.
Update: On Friday morning Enemalta said in a statement that the power outage on Thursday evening was due to a 11kV feeder supplying the areas of Ghadira, Cirkewwa and surroundings, which developed a fault at around 9.30pm.
Half an hour later, another fault developed on an underground 33kV cable which supplies the power to Gozo. Engineers transferred the load onto overhead 33kV lines with power fully restored to the island by around 11.45pm.
Another fault to an 11kV cable for Ghadira and Cirkewwa is under repair and these areas are still without power.
Enemalta employees are currently on site to repair the fault and to start repair works on all 3 cables.
Enemalta said that the power should be restored to all areas by later today, but some customers may still lose supply due to switching works.
