A mosaic representing figuratively the tragic siege of Gozo in 1551, was recently inaugurated in one of the passage ways of the Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria.
Apart from the historical significance of such a piece of art, this mosaic also represents an added value as it was made by children, under the direction of Gozitan mosaic artist Mary Portelli, during the Notte Gozitana events held last May
Children from Victoria Summer School attended the inauguration which was carried out by the Chief of Staff at the Ministry for Gozo, Grezzju Mercieca.
Mgr Joe Vella Gauci, who is the President of the National and Regional Celebrations Committee, also attended the event.
The panel is set in local hardstone worked by marble restorer Raymond Bonello of Xaghra.
The mosaic was an initiative by the National and Regional Celebrations Committee and Culture Office in the Ministry for Gozo.
