At the start of European Week for Waste Reduction, the Minister for Sustainable Development , Environment and Climate Change Leo Brincat said that this week of activities across Europe helped to raise awareness among all citizens to reduce waste as much as possible. “This more so today as waste was a resource that needed to be used in the most efficient manner.”
The Minister said that instead of the problem of waste getting larger, we should use any means to reduce it further through thought, wisdom and diligence.
Minister Brincat commended the ongoing intensive campaign to raise awareness on various levels: among local councils, communities and voluntary organisations, the business sector, educational institutions such as schools, colleges and university as well as other places such as hospitals, nursing homes, centres and other places that generate the waste.
“The Maltese Government is giving great importance to reducing waste in the newly prepared consultation draft plan for waste management,” the Minister concluded.
