Addressing a meeting of the Local Councils Association Annual Plenary, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Councils Jose Herrera, said that Local Councils will soon undergo a reform.
Jose Herrera stated that three enforcement officers would be specifically detailed to Gozo.
He praised the work of Local Councils since their formation in 1994, saying that they would become more involved in restoration projects within their localities
The Parliamentary Secretary said that plans on shared taxation and the local enforcement are both areas which are also under review, adding that a White Paper on enforcement had recently been approved, saying he welcomed the cooperation of the Opposition in proposing an Ombudsman for Councils.
The spokesman for the Opposition, David Agius also addressed the meeting.
