The Parliamentary Secretary for Competiveness and Economic Growth Dr Edward Zammit Lewis welcomed three gaming companies that will either expand or start their business in Malta this month.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that “since the first day in office he had expressed his commitment to further strengthen the regulation and to revise the structures of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority in order to provide a better and more efficient service to gaming operators.”
Dr Edward Zammit Lewis pointed out that the gaming industry contributes to around 12% of the economic product of the country.
Sportingbet, registered under the company’s name Headlong Ltd, has announced that it will be transferring the regulatory regimes from Alderney to Malta. This comes after the closure of the operator’s Channel Islands based operations. Sportingbet has been present in Malta for the past few months and currently employs 29 workers. At this stage Headlong Ltd is switching another two new licenses held by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta for Sportsbetting and live casino games. In due course there will be a number of job vacancies available.
The second gaming company that will be investing in Malta is Streamlogue Operations Ltd and will start its full operation in the second half of January. The company will be operating live casino studio facilities. At its offices in Handaq, this company currently employing 53 new workers with the intention to grow further and penetrate into other niches.
Evolution Gaming Malta Ltd is the third gaming company that will invest more in the Maltese economy. It currently employs 10 workers and it is estimated that the number of employees on the first day of its new operation will be of 130, increasing to 200 by the end of the year. This company is an expansion of the operational Live Casino in Riga, Latvia. In the coming days it is estimated to go live on the Malta based live casino platform.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Competiveness and Economic Growth Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis expressed his gratitude to Mr Joseph Cuschieri who recently took over as head of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority for the broad vision into this sector. The Government is giving the utmost importance to innovation so that the Maltese jurisdiction is reinforced on industrial and technological advances. Dr Zammit Lewis said that the Government will continue supporting companies which offer services in digital economy. In the meantime the Government will carry on searching new and different sectors to contribute to the Maltese economy’s growth and competitiveness. The aim is to continue fostering wealth and more quality jobs in this field.
