€800,000 in European funds for sports clubs administrators’ training

The Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, for the very first time in its history, will be holding a course leading to a level 5 diploma in sports administration. The training programme, worth €800,000, for sports clubs administrators is being financed through EU funds.

Addressing the meeting Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, Stefan Buontempo said that the training will be given by French experts in this sector and will be spread over a six month period. He mentioned that this is another electoral manifesto initiative which is being implemented. Over 100 prospective participants, employed within the public sector, attended this introductory session.

Dr Buontempo also said that half of the participants of this course will be given the opportunity to have placements abroad for a two-week period whereby they will gain hands-on experience of what they had studied during the course.

Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo said that at least 10 of the trained sports administrators will be holding similar courses to train other sports administrators. Dr Buontempo concluded that “through this training, we will be fulfilling our aim of providing Maltese sports organisations with a professional administration”.

French representatives of EOSE (European Observatoire of Sport and Employment) who will giving the training course, addressed the prospective participants.
