The Ramblers’ Association of Malta is organising an illustrated public lecture, delivered by Ing. Simon Salafia B.ElecEng (Hons,), DELE (Superior-Spanish).
The subject of the lecture is ‘The Names of the Valleys of Malta,’ their origin, valley systems, and more.
The aim of this lecture is to give a general idea of all the place-names of all the valleys in the island of Malta (not Gozo). The speaker will explain the methodology adopted in this study of over 400 names of the valleys researched and indicate the more important sites in the vicinity of the valley.
Mr Salafia also researched the origin or etymology of each place-name as this helps in their classification. All this data was then analysed statistically both qualitatively and quantitatively to produce some results and conclusions in the form of pie-charts and distribution graphs.
“Mr Salafia is one of the Ramblers’ Walk Leaders; one who rightfully enjoys the reputation of knowing almost every nook and cranny of our islands; with interesting details about all of them,” the Association said.
Following the talk time there will be time for questions and discussion.
The talk is taking place on Wednesday, the 16th of April, stating at 6.00pm, at Europe House, St Paul’s Street (behind old covered market), Valletta.
The Association said that attendance is free and open to all those interested. After the lecture there will be time for questions and comments.
“Kindly note that at the door you will be asked to present your identity card or some other document which serves the purpose. It will be appreciated if those attending will be seated by 5.50pm.”
