This morning a CABS team spotted and filmed two hunters stalking protected Stone Curlews between Salina and Maghtab at around 5:40am, it said.
CABS said that the birdwatchers alerted the police who responded quickly and managed to apprehend the two men. “One shotgun and two illegal bird callers were seized. The hunters were caught in the same area where 2 protected White Storks have been killed on 23 March.”
CABS said that one of the hunters arrested today was a repeat offender, adding that “according to the new amendments to the Conservation of Wild Birds Regulations (S.L.504.71) he could be sentenced to two years in jail or to pay a fine up to 10,000 Euros. If found guilty both men are expected to lose their hunting licence.”
