A 48-year old woman was this morning transferred from Gozo by AFM helicopter to the Mater Dei Hospital, after a man, believed to be her former husband, allegedly stabbed her in the head with a screwdriver following an argument at her home in Triq Guzeppi Grech, Xaghra.
The Police were called on site at around 7.00am where a woman was found lying on a bed with a wound on her head.
Preliminary investigations found that after an argument that arose between the victim and a 43-year-old man, who also resides in Xaghra. The woman was allegedly injured by the man with a pointed object.
The Police said that the woman, a mother of one has been certified to be in a critical condition.
Moments later, the Police arrested the suspect and he is now being held for more investigations.
The duty Magistrate was informed about the case and she appointed several experts to assist her in the Inquiry.
Police investigations are still underway.
