Addressing a Cabinet meeting in Gozo this morning, the Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat, said that funds for a feasibility study had been made available, for a fibre optic cable to be set up between Malta and Gozo.
The Prime Minister added that it would help boost IT companies in their operations on the islands.
Dr Muscat confirmed that the expression of interests are at an advanced stage for the cruise liner terminal as well as the yacht marina in Gozo.
Dr Muscat explained that the Government was looking into the possibility of setting up a medical school in Gozo, as well as ways of bringing medical tourism to the island, through the collaboration of a public/private partnership.
The MCAST Campus on Gozo would be consolidated into one single Centre, instead of the two that exist presently, the Prime Minister said.
The President of Gozo Tourism Association Joe Muscat, addressed the the Cabinet on the need for foreign investment in Gozo, which would include incentives. There is also a need to develop specialist areas for niche tourism on the island, he explained, such as those for agro-tourism and religious tourism, which is becoming increasingly popular in Europe.
The meeting continued behind closed doors.
The Government said that this morning’s meeting at the Gozo College Boys Secondary School in Victoria “is part of the Government’s incentive of holding cabinet meeting in various localities around Malta and Gozo.”

Peter, some of us can see intelligent ironic humour and not everyone can.
Remember, not everything is ‘straight’ and interpretation of humour or anything for that matter is personal and to a great degree dependant upon culture.
