Lord Chambray, an artisanal brewery with state-of-the-art equipment involving a €1 million investment, was inaugurated yesterday evening by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo.
The brewery is based in the Gozitano Agricultural Village, Xewkija.
In his speech the Minister said “that this is an investment which fits perfectly within the Government’s policy to promote investment in Gozo; investment which will result in more jobs for Gozitans in Gozo.”
He added, “This Government has from the very start given specific importance to Gozo. My Ministry is working hard to promote Gozo not only as a holiday retreat but also as the ideal place where one can invest. The Ministry has embarked on various ambitious projects to increase accessibility to the island in a bid to ensure that the issue of double insularity is reduced to a minimum.”
“These efforts are already bearing their fruit with various companies showing interest to invest in Gozo, others which have already committed themselves to set up in Gozo and this evening yet another company which is starting to operate from this brand new premise,” the Minister said.
Dr Refalo said that this is yet another investment in a quality product in Gozo which will also provide a unique touristic attraction on our island. For the first time Maltese and foreign tourists visiting Gozo can have the opportunity to experience a beer tour and to familiarise themselves with the art of beer making.
“Such brewery tours are very important attractions in various other countries and I am sure that Lord Chambray Brewery will become an important visit on the itinerary of every tourist visiting Gozo.”
The Minister stated that “this investment is also in line with the Government’s policy to promote more investment in agriculture. Government has assured that Gozo as a region will be granted a €32 million budget from EU funds to be invested in agriculture in the current budgeting period.”
Dr Refalo thanked the family D’Imperio “for the effort, the dedication and the investment which they have done in Gozo.” Wishing them best of luck for the future saying that he is sure that it “will be the beginning of another success story here in Gozo.”
Samuele D’Imperio, Managing Director of Lord Chambray Ltd, based in the Gozitano Agricultural Village, Xewkija, thanked all those who contributed to make his family’s dream to offer a quality product to the people of Malta and Gozo a reality.
He added, “my family first visited Gozo over 25 years ago and we immediately fell in love with it,” Mr D’Imperio said. “Since then we have been visiting regularly until, about five years ago, we bought a residence here at Fort Chambray.”
“We feel we would now like to give something back that is of exceptional quality. We want to share our pride and passion for brewing artisanal beers with our clients and we are convinced that the three local brews, Blue Lagoon, Golden Bay and San Blas, will soon become established on the market as premium ales.”
