Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to Malta, is first official overseas solo trip

The Duchess of Cambridge will stay at San Anton Palace and visit Valletta, the Grand Harbour and Vittoriosa during her 2-day visit to Malta next month, on the 20th and 21st of September.

She will represent Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Malta’s Independence. This is the Duchess’s first solo overseas visit:

Saturday, the 20th of September

Call on the President of Malta – The Duchess of Cambridge will meet with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at San Anton Palace, where the Duchess will be staying.

Call on the Prime Minister of Malta – The Duchess will travel to Auberge de Castille, where she will visit with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat

In Guardia Pageant, Palace Square, Valletta – The Duchess will attend various military-inspired events, including a reenactment, military inspection, and military drills.

National Library, Valletta – The Duchess will tour the library and view a number of historical documents, including letters from kings Henry VIII and George II and the original citation awarding the George Cross to Malta.

Independence Day Celebrations, Upper Barrakka Gardens – The Duchess will attend an evening gala, with the spectacular Grand Harbour serving as a backdrop to the event.

Sunday, the 21st of September

Independence Day Service, St John’s Co-Cathedral – The Duchess of Cambridge will attend a traditional church service and view two Caravaggio portraits in the Cathedral Museum.

Centru Access in Vittoriosa – The Duchess will visit Agenzija Zghazagh, a Government agency which runs a number of initiatives for young people. She will meet with staff and youth who work with the agency.

Walkabout in Vittoriosa Square – The Duchess will go on a short walkabout to meet with locals and view the town. Later, she will view local Maltese art at the Church of St. Lawrence.

Boat Tour, Grand Harbour – The Duchess will take a boat tour across Grand Harbour. During which she will be able to enjoy the views between Valletta and Vittoriosa.

The High Commissioner’s Garden Party, High Commissioner’s Residence – The Duchess will attend a garden party to celebrate Malta’s Independence Day celebrations, hosted by the British High Commissioner.
