Nationalist MP Dr Chris Said. in a Parliamentary Question during last night’s sitting, asked whether the tender on the feasibility of a tunnel between Malta and Gozo had been issued, and if so what was its findings.
Dr Said had said that the Prime Minister, in a ministerial statement of the 18th of June 2013, had informed the Parliament, that on the advice of the Ministry for Gozo and the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Government had decided to continue with the feasibility study initiated by the previous Government, and according to that statement a tender would be issued by the end of that year.
Said also asked if the Government was still intending to hold a referendum in Gozo, in order for the Gozitan people to decide on a whether they want a bridge or a tunnel.
In reply, the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo said that studies were still ongoing, and without giving any details, the Minister also said that they had been broadened to consider other alternatives to the project.

A Gozitan referendum is vital with regard to any proposal for a permanent link between Gozo and Malta. A permanent link will forever change Gozo, whether for good or ill, and it should be up to Gozitans to decide the fate of their home.
