The team of 5 runners from the Gozo Greyhounds Sports Club, along with their families, travelled to Malta early on Sunday morning to compete in the second race of the MAAA Cross Country league race which is held in Marsa.
What great results had! These dedicated kids have been training hard and it shows. They are training 4 times a week for 1 1/2 hour each session and it’s amazing how well they are doing, said Louis Debattista from the Club.
Following their return to Gozo, the same afternoon they all went on a hike in beautiful weather from Santa Lucija. Louis said, “I think it’s important to do a range of activities; not everyone likes running and when we hike we can spend time talking and enjoying family and friends, new and old.”
The results from Sunday’s Cross Country race in Malta are as follows:
Mathew Camilleri 7th place over 22 participants and 3rd place in his Category
Nathan Njoku 2nd place over 42 participants and 1st place in his Category
Nicole Camilleri 1st place over 17 participants and 2nd place in her Category
Pamela Camilleri 3rd place over 17 participants and 5th place in her Category
Louis Debattista junior is 7-years old, and unfortunately they don’t record the times/places for the youngest runners. His father Louis added, “he wants to know his finishing time and place like his teammates- but he has been doing very well placed somewhere around 12th place for the last 2 races he has done. I am proud of all of them all for their effort.”

Thank you Alain, I use to have 14 kids and train 3 time a week 2 years ago. Today only this kids stayed and trained and trained hard and they kept improving and the dedication and Voluntary work it’s paying off for them. I am happy for them and showing that Gozo can do it too.
What I don’t like is that For the last 3 years I have been trying to have my Club to be a member of the KMS & MAAA and as of today still not a member. Gave everything that they asked me to. The 5 committee are all parents and 2 of them spend hours and days to come up with a good Statue for the club. I am MOC Certified Couch under 16 years old and it’s all Voluntary and Free my own time no money. Family of 3 so I have things to do like everyone else. All this “Red tapes” to do something good, Voluntary to this kids and keep them healthy and safe not easy. The club has and still doing so much Voluntary work. We also are the Gozo Rocks Clean & Green Hikes has not even one ecoGozo or from Gozo Ministry to thank and appreciate this 43 Kids for an amazing work they did for 5 months, 19 Sundays 1,330 hours 480 big Recycle bags and pick trash from this little Island that 80% don’t even understand how to keep this Island free of trash in the country side or streets. Shame on Government it’s not about the color its about we care and we all should care and help each other. I asked one thing give a Certificate to each kid for their Voluntary work they all did, I asked to see if they can help to do a small party, I did not ask for a lot, but 6 months pass and nothing happen so yes we are still in our own after all that work and we will do it again but it’s a shame How much interest there is. All that money thrown to something else but the most important in our life is not appreciated to take care which is our Nature, our environment, Thank you
