The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo, together with Toni Attard artistic director of ZiguZajg Arts Festival for Children & Young People, have launched the ZiguZajg Arts Festival [1] in Gozo in the presence of the Austrian ambassador H.E. Dr. Petra Schneebauer.
This year, ZiguZajg Arts Festival for Children & Young People secured a Made in Gozo project, thanks to Austin Camilleri’s work.
The project, entitled ‘Solo I Bambini ci Salveranno,’ features the paintings of 12,000 primary schoolchildren from Malta and Gozo. Each painting was subsequently individually digitised, printed and integrated in a public installation, bringing children’s voices to the centre of Valletta. The project forms part of the Valletta 2018 Cultural Programme.
The festival travels to Gozo with a local show and an international performance. This year, these are Moonshadows by Theatre Ohne Grenzen, Vienna and Rondinella by the Drama Unit.
Moonshadows is a performance involving shadow puppetry which takes audiences on a theatrical journey between the realms of myths and magic, science and sci-fi. Rondinella is an adaptation in Maltese of Grimm’s fairy tale The Fisherman and his Wife.
Minister Refalo said that he hopes that in the future more shows from the ‘Made in Malta’ repertoire can be presented in Gozo in order to encourage further cultural participation in Gozo.
