Phase 2 of the restoration work on the well-known statue of the Salvatur, (Christ the Saviour) on Merzuq Hill, Marsalforn has now been completed
A lighting system has been installed that runs through photovoltaic panels, enabling the statue to be illuminated at night.
Phase 1, which was completed in October included the removal and replacement of the damaged fibreglass, especially around the head of the statue where it was damage after it was struck by a thunderbolt some years ago.
The statue was also given a gel coating to protect the structure from the elements and thus prevent further damage.
Thanks to the enthusiastic and eager group of workers, from the Ministry for Gozo and Wirt Ghawdex this project has been completed as planned and the statue is now restored to its former glory.
