The Malta University Historical Society (MUHS) in collaboration with Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum has organised ‘The Annual Andrew Vella Memorial Lecture,’ with Professor Vicki Ann Cremona (Chair, School of Performing Arts, University of Malta).
The lecture is entitled – ‘Festive Celebration, Colonial Condemnation: The events of Carnival 1846.’
This lecture will discuss the events of the 1846 Carnival using the tools of theatre studies to probe a historical happening. It will explore the points of view of the different actors, as this approach provides a better understanding of what turned out to be a dramatic event that led to a change in the colonial administration of the islands.
The lecture will take place on Friday, the 5th of December, starting at 6.30pm, at Palazzo Santa Sophia, Mdina.
After the lecture, patrons are invited to a meal being organised by the MUHS in the intimate setting of Fontanella Vinum. It will be an occasion to meet the speaker, chat with friends and make new ones.
The price for the three-course meal, including free-flowing water and a glass of wine, is €20. Places are limited and must be pre-booked and pre-paid by the 26th of November. For menu details are shown below.
A €5 donation is kindly solicited at the door. The donation will contribute towards the activities of the MUHS and of Palazzo Falson.
