Enemalta thanked its employees on duty on Christmas and New Year’s Day “for their commitment to the provision of a continued service to the Company’s customers.”
Over 75 operators, technicians, engineers, customer care agents and security officers were on duty at any one time, while others were on standby and reported for work when required.
Enemalta said that workers from different sections are on duty round the clock, everyday, to operate the power stations, carry out the necessary maintenance and repairs to the distribution network and to respond to customers’ requests for assistance.
As unprecedented cold temperatures swept across the Maltese Islands, these Enemalta employees faced an even tougher challenge this festive season. During the last few hours of the year, as temperatures plummeted, electricity demand increased by some 12% when compared to the same evening in 2013.
Enemalta technicians also assisted a number of customers who experienced supply disruptions after overloading their electricity circuits. Ahead of these inclement weather conditions at such a critical period, the Company had assigned additional teams to make sure that any storm damages or requests for assistance from customers are attended to in the shortest time possible.
On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Ing. Fredrick Azzopardi, the Company’s Executive Chairman, and other Enemalta and Shanghai Electric Power management officials visited the workers on duty at the two power stations and at other sites.
“We would like to thank the employees who were working at Enemalta rather than joining in the festive celebrations with their loved ones. We are taking several measures to continue improving the reliability and efficiency of our services and to reduce the response time when handling customers’ requests for support, especially during such critical periods,” Ing. Azzopardi said.
