For the second part of the Gozo-Rocks Ultimate Challenge hike, the weather was once again perfect for walking, windy and sunny. The root allowed the hikers to make the finish before lunch time!
Organiser Louis Debattista, said that this leg of the hike attracted more people, the majority of which were children who did not complain at all, “in fact when we got to Ramla they took their shoes and socks off to play in the sand!”
This stretch was a bit more adventurous for the hikers, with some pathways leading down into thick bamboo shrubs and through muddy bogs.”There were lots of branches to reach out to and stepping stones to avoid the mud.”
Louis said that “this was definitely a hike were you needed to use both hands and feet! The majority of the paths were actually on level ground, giving everyone time to enjoy the company and views.”
The next hike will be this Saturday, the10th of January, starting at Xlendi at 9.00am, taking the coastal path, and finishing at Marsalforn. Everyone is welcome to join in, just take something to drink and eat and wear sensible, comfortable shoes.
There will be a bus to take everyone to Xlendi, meeting at 8.30am at Qala Local Council. Louis has asked that everyone starts from there so that the bus can collect everyone from Marsalforn and drop off back at Qala.
