Apocalypse Slough, UK television dramedy with Rob Lowe to film in Malta

Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer, Megan Mullally, Mathew Baynton and Pauline Quirke are set to star in Apocalypse Slough, a dramedy to be partially shot in Malta. The Malta Film Commission has confirmed that Apocalypse Slough will be partially shot in Malta in the coming months with other locations including the UK and South Africa.

Apocalypse Slough is a bold, adrenaline fuelled comedic drama about the last days of mankind. A relentlessly entertaining mix of action, adventure, romance and wit set against a backdrop of apocalyptic chaos, the story follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways.

All triggered by the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course towards earth… Apocalypse Slough is being produced by Working Title Television and Bigballs Films for Sky 1 and NBC.

The executive producers for the series are Juliette Howell, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Lynn Horsford for Working Title TV, Andrew Conrad for Bigballs Films, and Cameron Roach and Lizzie Gray for Sky. The series will be produced by Polly Buckle (Merlin), Nick Pitt (Misfits) and Susie Liggat (Mapp & Lucia).

NBCUniversal International Television Production operates a joint television production venture with Working Title Television. NBCUniversal International Television Distribution will distribute the series worldwide.

Edward Zammit Lewis, Minister responsible for the Tourism and Film industry said that the film industry is going from strength to strength with yet another international production to land in Malta. “We are optimistic that by creating an economically sustainable industry we will be generating new jobs and offering new employment opportunities.”

Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech expressed satisfaction and stated “we are proud to have such a high concept new dramedy with such a rich and talented cast filming in Malta. I believe that the new cash rebates and the consistent marketing drive that the Malta Film Commission has put together are bearing fruit.”
